McPherson to Host Basketball Classic 25-Oct-2018
McPherson, KS - The City of McPherson will host the first Mayor’s Cup Basketball Classic between Central Christian College and McPherson College on Wednesday, November 7, at the McPherson High School Roundhouse. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. The annual competition will showcase McPherson’s two colleges and encourage community support. “This is our opportunity to express appreciation for the economic impact both colleges have on McPherson,” said Mayor Tom Brown.
A traveling trophy will be awarded to the winning teams, and each school will receive a $1,000 participation award to be applied to the school’s scholarship fund. Event sponsorship is provided by People’s Bank, which includes a “Shoot for Loot” halftime activity. Scholarships are provided by Galen Shields, McPherson BPU and a McPherson College alum. Trophies will be funded with a sports grant provided by the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“We appreciate the college presidents, athletic directors, and coaches whose support has made this event possible,” noted Brown. He also recognized USD 418 for their cooperation in providing the Roundhouse as the event venue.
Advanced tickets can be purchased beginning Monday, October 29, at People’s Bank, Stewart’s Sports, McPherson City Offices, Central Christian College, McPherson College, and the McPherson Museum. Cost is $8 for adults and $2 for youth. College students and faculty are free with school ID cards.
